If you feel your life has gotten “off balance,” start the following 3-Step Program ASAP:
1. Look at time as a gift to cherish, a package to open.
Our time is limited. God willing, we are given 24 hours a day – that’s about 730 hours a month, and almost 8766 hours each year. Subtract what’s needed for sleep, work, commuting, everyday household tasks, etc., and you’re left with a very small amount. How do you really want to spend your time?
2. Write down the activities that are important to you.
To be sure, not everything is equally important. So start with what’s most important.
3. Set an appointment with yourself for those things.
I mean, actually put it into your calendar. If a request comes up for that appointed time, simply say, “I’m sorry, that’s not going to work for me.” Spontaneity has its place, but it’s icing. Don’t rely on it for things truly important.
When you value your time, you’ll have a different perspective on what’s a good use of it. If someone or something is important enough to you, don’t wait until you “have time”…you never will. Make time anyway. And guard it fiercely. Especially if it involves your family.
