What began as a need in our own lives, evolved into a personal concierge and errand service filling that need for others.
It was the late 1990s. And with two careers and three small children, we were always on the go and often stressed out. We felt like there was never enough time for the kids, for each other, and, basically, never time to enjoy the life we were working so hard for.
We had no network of family living close by to help us out when time was scrunched or we felt overwhelmed. And you can only call on close friends so often before it becomes an imposition. (Unless, of course, you can return the favor…but doesn’t that defeat the purpose?)
So, we used to joke wistfully, “There ought to be someone we could just PAY to take care of everyday stuff.” What we wanted was someone we could feel comfortable with and rely on completely…but without feeling we’d be imposing or having the need to return the favor.
In addition, the friends we talked with were all feeling the same frustration and guilt about not having enough family-time and not knowing what to do about it.
That’s when we decided to take matters into our own hands and create a company to be that “someone” for others. And so, in 1999, our “fourth child” California Concierge LLC was born.
Our backgrounds include finance, education, and family and consumer sciences. We share a God-given gift of hospitality, with a natural passion for taking care of details and customer service. We love challenges and enjoy the “do-whatever-it-takes” world of personal concierge and lifestyle management. But what we love most is being a help to others, being that someone they can count on, because we know how badly it’s needed.
In addition, our team members are all dedicated professionals for whom our company core values of Integrity, Reliability and Hospitality are not just words to live by but are the essence of who they are.
Married since 1982, we’ve lived in the same home in Woodland Hills, a suburb of Los Angeles, since 1986. Our daughter, a Naval aviator, is married to a commercial pilot. Our older son, a software engineer, designs programs for a mobile gaming company. Our younger son is a college junior, majoring in business. And, then there’s our furry child Corky, a canine rescue, who rounds out our crew. For fun, we enjoy running (mostly 5K and 10K), exploring near (L.A.’s trails and museums, especially) and far (Alaska is among our favorite places), and playing games (like Catan, Codenames and Ticket to Ride). It’s all about being with family and friends.
By taking care of things that don’t have to be done by you, we give you space in your days for what matters most – your family, friends, hobbies, exercise, rest, volunteering…things that often get the short end of the stick when life feels crammed and crazy.
